For those who are looking for more cardiovascular conditioning, running is better than walking. However, walking is better for weight loss when it comes to exercise.
Moderately intense exercise, like a brisk walk, burns higher percentage of fat calories than high-intensity exercise. Walking is low-impact and is great for all ages and fitness levels.
This is great for families, or moms or dads with kids, take a brisk walk around the block or your subdivision. Make a fun game of it; find different birds and other critters. Before you know it your kids will keep you on your toes with scavenger hunts along with their energizing walks.
You may even find your family participating in 5K runs/walks in and around your community for a charity.
Tip: Start slow. It's better to walk 5 or 10 minutes per day and work your way up than to overdue it and then be less frequent and not enjoying your walks. Build up to a jog or run if you desire, or are training for a 5K or marathon.
Don't put off exercise until you're training for a marathon. Gather the kids, grab a bottle of water and enjoy family fitness. Or hook up with a neighbor and make a religious habit of walking together, take the dog if you need to.

Detox, for your health
Detox is synonymous with celebrities for addictions (usually alcohol or drugs). However, detox is known in the health and beauty, or spa industry, for ridding the body of toxins. Popular detox diets not only offer to flush poisons from the body, but also eliminate excess weight, can clear you complexion and aid the immune system.
Detoxifying, or purifying the body of harmful substances is a not new, it has actually been around for centuries. Detox, short for detoxification, is ridding the body of toxins such as drugs, alcohol and pollutants from our environment.
A few reasons to be concerned about detoxing, which can be serious; vitamin deficiencies, muscle breakdown and blood sugar problems. Depriving the body of vitamins and minerals can weaken the body's ability to fight infections and inflammation. Diets can upset the blood sugar, potassium and sodium levels in the body, people with diabetes, heart or kidney disease or women who are pregnant or nursing shouldn't try detox.
The safe, natural detox is by drinking water. Water is natural, offers dehydration as well as minerals and will flush the system along with your built-in detox; the liver, kidneys, lungs and skin.
A few other side-effects to watch out for when detoxing include; headaches, fatigue, irritability, aches and pains and frequent urination and then dehydration.
Always consult with your doctor and a nutritionist prior to starting any diets or detoxes.

Caffeine Protect from Skin Cancer
Lead researcher Dr. Paul Nghiem, an associate professor of dermatology at the University of Washington in Seattle, states,"We've found what we believe o be the mechanism by which caffeine is associated with decreased skin cancer."
During the study, Nghiem's team looked at caffeine's effect on human skin cells in a laboratory that had been exposed to ultraviolet radiation. They found that in cells damaged by UV rays, caffeine interrupted a protein called ATR-Chk1, causing the damaged cells to self-destruct.
According to Ngheim, caffeine has no effect on undamaged cells.
ATR is essential to damaged cells that are growing rapidly and caffeine specifically targets damaged cells that can become cancerous. Caffeine more than doubles the number of damaged cells that will die normally after a given dose of UV, added Nghiem. this is a biological mechanism that explains what we have been seeing for many years from the oral intake of caffeine.
On a topical study, Nghiem has been experimenting by applying caffeine directly on the skin (of mice and humans. According to Nghiem, "It suppresses skin cancer development by as much as 72 percent in mice." (more on website, FloridaSpaGirls.net)

Heart Healthy
It's Heart month, I guess you already knew this. Sorry for posting so late. I promise to be more proactive. Wherever you are, I'm sure there are free health screenings, check ups, tests, workshops and the like, and not just for your heart! Why not take a few minutes from your not-so-busy life, or you won't have one pretty soon, and go get checked out. You may be pleasantly surprised! And have peace of mind. Women are more at risk of developing heart disease than men. We can all imagine why this is. And I know I wont be the first one to tell you the importance of cardio; even if its just walking for 20-30 minutes, three to five times per week. Go outside and breathe in some fresh air, smile at the birds, butterflies and beautiful flowers. You can even bring your ipod, mp3 or cell along to keep you humming. Personally I enjoy walking in solitude most of the time to destress, unplug and live in the moment. Life is precious. So is our health. It used to be people thought of spas as a luxury. No more. Today they offer more health treatments than a gym. Health is body, mind and soul. If you don't take time for you everyday, who will? And how much longer do you think you will enjoy the quality of life you desire? We are just building FloridaSpaGirls.net, but hope you will bookmark both our blog and website, sign up for our newsletters and more and tell your friends. A tremendous amount of work is going into this site and what it will offer to you, your family and friends and we hope to hear healthy, happy stories very soon!
